Arthur Forest Lampitt, Jr. was born and raised in Illinois. His father owned an Appraisal and Property Management company and his mother worked as a secretary. The recession of 1979 destroyed his father’s business, which thrust the family into extreme poverty. Being the oldest of four boys, and still a boy himself, Art began working to help bring in money; but it was still many years before his family enjoyed reliable electricity, running water, and heat again.
Despite the day-to-day struggles that young Art faced, he still excelled. He went on to become the county Chess Champion, a member of the Boy Scouts, and he was on the swim team and wrestling team. He took a job after school to pay for his own Catholic school tuition, and he was honored by the Optimist club of Peoria for his honesty in turning over a lost wallet to police.
After high school, Art earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, with a minor in Math, from Southern Illinois University. During his senior year, Art and two friends started a computer software company. The company remained in business for a few years until they went their separate ways: One went to work for Microsoft, one went to work for the United Nations, and Art went to work as an IT Management Consultant for KPMG in Chicago.
For the next fifteen years Art traveled the country consulting for large financial institutions and government agencies. His ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds, and bring them together as a team, was a large part of his success. That, coupled with an insatiable desire for knowledge and his use of good ol’ common sense, kept him in high demand as the guy who could “solve the unsolvable.” Mid-way through his career, Art left KPMG to start his own consulting practice.
Art moved to Reno in 2008 and his success continued, but technology consulting was losing it’s challenge. In early 2009, Art moved to Las Vegas and passed the Series 7 and Series 63 so that he could apply his problem solving skills in professional stock trading.
While Art had always considered becoming involved in politics later in life, recent events have compelled him to take action sooner rather than later. New to politics, Art is not beholden to special interest groups or corporations. He seeks to reduce the size of government, to hold government fiscally accountable, and to encourage the voice of the people to be heard in determining the future of Nevada.
